James Carr
James is SDK's co-owner and head trainer; working closely with each dog and handler, bringing practical, no-nonsense training backed by years of hands-on experience with stock and working dogs of all levels.
Michelle Carr
Michelle is the co-owner and voice behind the business, managing bookings, communication, social media and the day-to-day running of Shimmy Downs.
Imogen Lucht
Imogen is SDK's newest dog trainer who works alongside James and has quickly become a valued part of the Shimmy Downs team. With a background growing up around working dogs and a natural ability with them, Imogen brings a calm, capable presence to training sessions and is now taking on her own clients.
Our Origins
Shimmy Downs Kelpies is a family-owned and operated working dog training business based in the South West of WA, just outside Busselton.

Founded by James and Michelle Carr, Shimmy Downs was built from a passion for working dogs, rural life and helping others get the very best out of their dogs. What started as a small kelpie stud has grown into a trusted training space for working breed owners across the region and beyond.

Shimmy Downs is very much a family environment. Our girls, Amarlia, Mackenzie and Aurora, are growing up surrounded by dogs, sheep and the day-to-day rhythm of farm life, and that sense of community is something we love sharing with our clients.
